The company was founded by Stefan Fruth, Mark Gläser und Christopher Roth in 2000. The first feature film “Baader” was selected for the Berlinale competition in 2002 and won the “Alfred Bauer Price” for innovation in the cinema. In 2004 Mark Gläser transferred his shares to Moritz von der Groeben. 72film further on produced commercials, the feature films “Lacoma” and “Mozartbique” and organized the worldwide and year-long  theatre and book project “80*81″. In 2014 Stefan Fruth and Moritz von der Groeben left the company.
